Role overview
Kanan Wealth is an established financial-planning and wealth-management practice based in Cape Town (FSP 36443), providing personalised financial advice and wealth-management solutions to individuals, families and business owners.
The Junior Financial Adviser will support and strengthen relationships with existing clients while identifying appropriate opportunities to expand the advice and services provided to them. The position suits a developing professional who combines strong analytical ability with confidence in client engagement, relationship management and business development.
Although positioned at junior level, the role is not administrative. The successful candidate will engage with clients, identify financial-planning needs, support the preparation and delivery of advice, and contribute directly to the growth of the practice. The candidate must be sufficiently qualified and experienced to operate without creating unnecessary supervision requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, serving as a professional point of contact for allocated clients.
- Conduct regular client reviews and follow-up engagements, identifying changes in circumstances that may require further advice.
- Gather and analyse client financial information and identify gaps in existing arrangements.
- Support the preparation of financial needs analyses and assist with investment, retirement and risk-planning recommendations.
- Prepare information for review meetings and support the preparation of advice records and client documentation.
- Identify appropriate advice and product opportunities within the existing client base and support revenue growth from those relationships.
- Present suitable solutions clearly and confidently, following up on advice opportunities and outstanding decisions.
- Coordinate the implementation of approved recommendations, liaising with internal administrators and product providers.
- Maintain accurate client and CRM records and ensure advice documentation is correctly filed.
- Ensure adherence to FAIS, FICA, FSCA standards, TCF principles and Record of Advice requirements.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- A relevant recognised financial-planning or wealth-management qualification.
- RE5 Regulatory Examination.
- Relevant Class of Business training and appropriate product-specific training.
- Compliance with applicable fit-and-proper requirements.
- Previous experience within financial planning, wealth management or financial advice, engaging directly with clients.
- Exposure to financial needs analysis, client reviews and advice across investments, retirement planning or risk products.
- Experience working within a regulated financial-services environment.
Preferred qualifications
A CFP® designation is not required for this position, although progress toward further professional financial-planning qualifications will be viewed favourably. Exposure to estate planning, tax planning and wealth structuring is advantageous.
Skills and competencies
- Strong analytical and numerical ability.
- Excellent client relationship-management skills and commercial awareness.
- Confidence in identifying and discussing advice opportunities.
- Sound judgement, attention to detail and strong organisational ability.
- Capacity to manage multiple client matters simultaneously.
Personal attributes
Ambitious, polished and client focused, comfortable in a boutique wealth-management environment, eager to learn from experienced Wealth Managers and Directors, and committed to a long-term career within the practice.
Kanan Wealth has indicated a preference for candidates who would contribute positively to the diversity and balance of the team. All candidates are assessed fairly on qualifications, experience, suitability and ability to perform the role.
